How Do We Get Home
Last year, I searched high and low for a simple, quick, 8 x 11, chart to track the method of transportation my students used to get home each day. I could not find what I was looking for. I decided to create my own.
Keeping Up With Transportation Method
Each year, I have a hand full of students that change their method of transportation daily. This can be difficult to keep up with and still have it look nice. It was also important to me that my method take up little wall space. I decided to make a chart with three different columns to represent the three different forms of transportation that my students use.
Names?
Now to figure out how I would attach their name! I wanted to make sure that my chosen method would provide the flexibility that I needed (without breaking the bank). In the past I had used clothespins but soon discovered that method required a lot of up keep. I had to replace the pins a lot. My students would lose or break them. Finally it came to me. I had recently purchased a 1” hole punch for another craft project. (A picture of the one I used is below). I purchased it from Hobby Lobby.
Creating Name Buttons
I decided that I could create circle tags and type each of my students names on them. I could use cardstock paper for a more durable tag. In addition to that I could laminate them for added protection. To secure them I could use my faithful resource, Dollar Tree’s, Fastener Dots. (Yes, I think I might be obsessed with using them!) My name buttons were ready!
The important thing was this method would meet all my requirements.
How We Get Home Chart
Here is how it turned out.
Reflection
I did not have to change out any tags the whole year. Nor did I have to replace any Fastener Dots. My students were really good about changing the method of their transportation. I seldom had to remind them to move their name. It was more of them reminding me that they had already moved it.
I decided to create a chart like mine as well as adding two additional options with editable tags on teachers pay teachers. If you would like to download the free copy, click this link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/How-Do-We-Get-Home-3181920
